Getting Out of Your Comfort Zone

I went to Boston this weekend with my son for the last volleyball tournament of his travel season. Our hotel was in Chelsea, five miles from the convention center, but it took us a half hour to get there due to the traffic.

I don't like driving in traffic, especially when I don't know my way around. Nonetheless, for the love of my son and my desire to support him, that's what I did this weekend. We had a blast!

On Saturday night, the team met up at a bowling alley in Fenway. I was to drop my son off and he would get a ride back from one of his friends. We had to go into the city to get there and by now it was dark. My fearless son drove us there but that meant I was going to have to drive back by myself and I was not feeling particularly brave. So I prayed and listened to spiritual songs the entire time. And you know what? God blessed me with a safe, fifteen-minute ride back to my hotel with no issues.

When I got to my room I decided to go to the gym at the hotel. It was a state-of-the-art fitness center with a weight room, treadmills, and even a Peloton stationary bike. After thirty minutes on the treadmill, I did my usual upper and lower body exercise routine and was planning to call it a day.

But the Peloton bike was luring me to take it for a ride. It had a computer attached where you choose a class and pedal to music as the instructor on the screen sings along and motivates the class to go further than they think they can. Other cyclists from different parts of the country/world joined in and I had a fantastic cycling workout to finish my night.

Getting out of your comfort zone can be scary but it makes you stronger and more resilient in the end. What will you try this month to get out of your comfort zone?
