| Bless and do not curse. Rom 12:14b If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. Mt 5:41 |
I went for a much-needed haircut this morning. I can't remember the last time I went for a haircut. All I know is that when my hair looks out of shape, gets tangled too much, and is difficult to manage, it's time for a haircut.
After the first place I went said they have no operators who do female cuts, he sent me to another of the same franchise 10 miles down the road. I walked in, I told them I wanted a haircut and they sent me to Marissa. She seemed nice enough but I felt she was silently scrutinizing me as I took my coat off and she led me to her chair.
She asked me what I wanted and I told her a haircut, not a lob, but long, more one length with a face frame. She proceeded to cut my hair in silence. I asked her if she had a family. She said no, just a husband. I asked her how long she worked here and if she enjoyed her job. She said 22 years and yes. I continued trying to get more than one-word answers from her but to no avail. Just crickets.
Towards the end, I asked her how it looked as I had my back towards the mirror and I couldn't see. She didn't reply. When she turned me toward the mirror she asked me how I liked it. I wanted more of a face frame so I asked her for her advice since she was the expert. She didn't give me any. She just cut the face frame a little shorter as I asked her to and that was it. More crickets.
It was the most uncomfortable, strangest haircut experience I ever had. My nature is to complain, think I did something wrong, be irritated, and fume all day about it. But instead, I decided to bless her. After all, I figured she must be having a rough day, month, or life that has nothing to do with me.
She wrote out the bill for $45.00 and handed it to me to pay the cashier. I paid it, went back to her chair and handed her a $10.00 tip with a smile, and said "Thank you so much. Have a great day!"
Will I go back to her ever again, probably not. But blessing is better than cursing and if a person goes one mile with you I say go with them two.
